Dynasylan® SILBOND® 40 is an ethyl polysilicate, emerges from partial hydrolysis of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS). This transformation converts ethoxy groups into hydroxyl groups, generating silanols. Subsequent condensation of silanols engenders siloxane bonds (-Si-O-Si-O-) and prompts eventual gelation. Often deployed as an intermediary, Dynasylan® SILBOND® 40 undergoes further hydrolysis to produce a binder suitable for diverse applications. These include inorganic zinc-rich primers, investment casting molds, ceramic shapes, coatings, and thermal insulation.

Dynasylan® A is also known as TEOS (tetraethoxysilane), is the ethyl ester of orthosilicic acid. This colorless, low-viscosity liquid boasts a SiO content of 28.5%. Utilization involves acid- or alkali-catalyzed hydrolysis, leveraging all four ethoxy groups for reaction and earning it tetrafunctional status. Hydrolysis initiates silanol group formation, which further condenses to establish robust siloxane bonds (-Si-O-Si-). Notably, condensation begins before hydrolysis concludes, with ongoing condensation during storage resulting in gel formation. Gelation rate hinges on water concentration.

Nicron® 504 is a high-purity microcrystalline talc. The platy nature of Nicron® 504 enhances film strength and flexibility and provides barrier properties in architectural and industrial primers and topcoats to improve corrosion resistance and stain-blocking ability. Nicron® 504 is also used in paints to improve sag resistance and maximize prime pigment extension.
